I came across Peter May's Hebridean trilogy quite by accident whilst visiting Lewis and Harris. The thing that strikes you with both Blackhouse, the first book, and The Lewis Man ( haven't got round to The Chess Man yet, but can't wait) is the authentic and atmospheric descriptions of the wild Hebridean terrain.
God I love how this man writes.
